Surgery update
3.01.2009
The CEC decided they could treat me! My surgery is March 23rd, in Atlanta. Mom will be driving in to take care of me, because Chris can't leave town. I fly into Atlanta on the 22nd, my pre-op appointment is the next morning at 7 am, the surgery at 11 am. They want you to stay in the area for at least 72 hours after the surgery, so we've reserved a suite with a full kitchen at a hotel right across from the hospital. It'll be interesting recovering for 3 days in a strange bed, but Mom's bringing movies and a comfy mattress topper that will hopefully make the stay a little more pleasant. We'll go shopping at Whole Foods on Sunday afternoon, and plan to make some soups and other comforting recovery foods. The flight home will be interesting, but Mom's going to make sure they have a wheelchair waiting at the airport and that someone can help me through security and on/off the plane. Chris is going to take Friday off, so I should be pretty well taken care of for that week. I'm pretty nervous - you'd think it would be old hat since it's my third one, but that's not the case.
Luckily, I've been feeling better this weekend, so I've been working off some of this nervous energy. Yesterday, I did the dishes that had been sitting in the sink all week, cleaned out the fridge, rearranged the kitchen cabinets, and stained some picture frames we bought at Ikea a couple weeks ago. Today, I took all the books off the shelves in the little room upstairs and spackled and sanded the walls, prepping that room for painting tomorrow, folded 3 loads of laundry, bagged up some stuff to take to Goodwill, and painted the downstairs bath. There's a good chance we'll get a snow day tomorrow, because we've gotten a couple inches tonight and we're supposed to get a couple more overnight, followed by a layer of ice. If that happens, I'll start painting first thing in the morning.
It feels good to get things done around here. By the time Katie and Kyle leave on the 13th, it's going to look like a completely different house!
