Planting...finally!

I've been trying to start my planting for a couple weeks now. I finally got some lettuce (a mix) in the ground, as well as some dwarf sugar snap peas. Yumm! Of course, right after planting the seeds, it started hailing! So, since I was still bursting with energy I continued my planting indoors, by starting some orange bell peppers and my tomato plants: Bloody Butcher, Cherry Roma, and Hungarian Heart. Tomorrow is supposed to be nicer weather, and I'll continue my planting with Beets, Radishes, Hubbard Squash, Broccoli, Baby Carrots, Rainbow Chard and Kale. I may have gotten in over my head this year :). We'll see. I'm actually trying succession plantings with a couple of the veggies this year. If you plant lettuce every two weeks, your harvests will last longer. Some of the veggies, like the Kale can be planted early and then again late fall. There are even more to plant after the last frost - cucumbers, squash, zucchini, green beans, and daikon radishes. I'm also going to plant some catnip plants all around the garden and some around the house too. They are supposed to be good for repelling pests - even ticks. Plus it'll be a little treat for Ozzy. I've had a hard time remembering when and how to plant everything, and getting a late start didn't help. Doing it the first time is usually the most difficult - next year should be a lot easier. I guess I'm more of a trial and error learner. As much fun as the research is, I need to get my hands dirty to really understand what works and what doesn't.
Oh, and we replaced the numbers on our mailbox post finally! The old ones have been barely hanging since we moved in last year. Thanks to my wonderful hubby for taking care of that!
What a good start to the weekend!
