Big sister plays nurse
3.01.2008
We have a visitor this weekend! I drove to College Park Friday afternoon and picked Rachel up. The poor thing has the flu, and needs to be taken care of. We brought her home and parked her on the couch with a humidifier and have been pouring liquids in her ever since. Today she actually sat up in the den for a few minutes, so I think she's getting a little bit better. Hopefully with another good day of rest she'll be able to make it to class on Monday. Chris has to travel to L.A. on Monday, so I'm just hoping he doesn't get sick.
Today it got up to 47. And if a chilly wind hadn't been blowing, it might have felt like spring today! We even had some sun this afternoon. I don't think I should get my hopes up though, because in the past it has stayed cold through April. Of course, there's always global warming, so who knows? I'm just looking forward to planting a vegetable garden this year. And not just the 2 rows of sad tomatoes like last year, but a variety of veggies - bell peppers, cucumbers, swiss chard, peas, lettuce, squash, zuccini, and who knows what else. Plus we're adding habanero peppers to our container pepper collection, and dill to the herbs, as well as some catnip. Catnip is supposed to be good for repelling certain buggy pests as well as being a tasty treat for Ozzy. We got all of our seeds from Seed Savers, a non-profit organization pf gardeners that share heirloom seeds. Their prices are great, and they have a great organic selection too. I can't wait to get my hands dirty!
We found another great chair on craigslist for the den.
After bringing that chair in, we had 5 chairs in one room! Thank God for Freecycle :). It took all of one day to get rid of one. Slowly but surely the den is starting to look a little more like a real room, and less like a hodge-podge of mismatched crap.
What I was hoping to accomplish this weekend:
Setting up the compost pile near the garden
Give the dog a haircut and a bath
Prep and paint the dining room
Do some laundry
Repot the herbs and peppers
Get rid of more stuff through Freecycle
Clean the kitchen
Go grocery shopping for next week
What I've accomplished so far:
Taking care of my sick lil' sister
Gave the dog a haircut and a bath
Cleaned the kitchen
Well, there's still tomorrow I guess!
