5 1/2 weeks post surgery

It's been for-e-ver since I've posted. I've been recovering well from surgery, and Chris has been taking great care of me :). I took two weeks off from work, and although I really could have used a third week, I made sure that I didn't tire myself out too much. In fact that first week back, I don't think I got up from my chair once during the day other than to go to lunch! And did very little at home except lay on the couch and relax. I'm hoping those precautions will speed the internal healing that my body needs to do.

In the surgery - they found endo pretty much everywhere, same as before. They removed my appendix, which was twisted around with adhesions and looked pretty nasty. They cut endo and adhesions from my bladder and bowels, from the utero-sacral ligaments (hold the uterus up), and various spots in my abdominal cavity and abdominal walls. They removed 2 endometriomas and one functional cyst (that burst during surgery) from my ovary. And they discovered adenomyosis, which is endo that grows within the lining of the uterus. Unfortunately, that cannot be removed except by hysterectomy. So unless it causes unbearable pain in the future, I'll just have to leave that alone.

One nasty side-effect of the surgery has been the pain I get when bladder or bowels are full (sorry if this is TMI). Since these are organs that expand, when they cut into the outer layers and then they try to expand, it is very painful. So for the first few weeks, just drinking a glass of water was enough to make knife-like pains shoot through my abdomen. Luckily, that has settled down a bit, and only happens maybe once a day now.
