What's new...
8.02.2008
July has been another busy month. We headed out to San Jose for our annual trip to NATIA. I wasn't really looking forward to it this year (my second year there), but it ended up being a lot of fun. Last year we only had 3 people working TS's part of the booth, this year we had 4. Last year was in Pittsburgh - which closes up entirely each night around 7 pm. San Jose was amazing - sunny, 70 degrees, lots of restaurants with patio seating. It was still a long week, though. Up bright and early at 6:30, then usually working the booth until 5pm followed by vendor receptions and some other mandatory "fun" lasting until at least 11 pm (or 2 am!). One night is beer night - we served 2 kinds in our booth from 6-9. Although it sounds like you'd be chillin' and relaxin' with people just kinda drinking and having fun, we had so much traffic from people interested in our products that we were talking business all night. No, not really something to complain about. And really a pleasant surprise. We did well last year, but this year was even better :). When the last day rolled around, I really just wanted to curl up and sleep for about a day and a half. Fortunately, we had the chance to stop in Albuquerque on the way back to MD for a couple days. We visited my mother-in-law Linda for a couple days in her new house. We watched a lot of Red Sox and helped unpack a few boxes. But mostly sat around and did nothing :). And enjoyed some more sunny 65-70 degree weather.
Coming back to MD was a shock. Hot, muggy, 95 degrees. And I SO WAS NOT READY TO GO BACK TO WORK. Ugh. Being gone for a week is hard. Being gone for a week when you haven't even had a vacation is just ridiculous. You're playing catchup with no energy, no enthusiasm, and absolutely no patience. Needless to say, it was a miserable week.
Beth and Rich and the kids took off to Florida this past week, though, so it was like having a mini-vacation. I started thinking about all the things I could get done while they were gone. Then I came home, did some yoga, climbed in a bath and read until bedtime. Now THAT is what I call a good evening. Plus, it was nice being able to actually talk to Chris. He has been working weekends for a couple months now, plus late nights, so we definitely enjoyed some time to ourselves.
